On May 11, a book release was held at the India International Centre in New Delhi for the publication issued by “Taylor & Francis” a leading academic publisher based on Dr. Ani Yeremyan’s scholarly work “Spaces Between Belongings: Armenian Diasporic Communities in India.”
During the event, H.E. Dr. Vahagn Afyan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to India, noted in his remarks that the publication of such a work provides yet another opportunity to reflect on the deep historical and cultural ties between Armenia and India and to strengthen mutual understanding between the two peoples. He recalled that as early as 150 BCE, Indian princes had found refuge in Armenia, and that from the 1600s through the 1800s Armenian merchants and various public figures had settled in India. The ambassador also emphasized that one of the commonalities and distinctive features of both Armenia and India is the large number of diverse communities abroad.
The event was attended by Dr. Rajesh Ranjan, Deputy Director General of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), as the Special Guest, who also referred to the historically close interactions between the peoples of the two countries and highlighted the importance of such publications.
The representative of the publishing house also delivered a welcoming speech.
This was followed by the book discussion between the author, Dr. Ani Yeremyan, who also serves as Second Secretary at the Embassy of Armenia in India, and the distinguished members of Indian academic circle, who were part of the event.
Members of diplomatic, academic and student community as well as those of the small Armenian community in India also attended the book launch
